Wirikuta Update! For the past two and a half years the Wixárika people and their supporters have fought for the cancelation of mining concessions in their sacred pilgrimage site of Wirikuta where for millennia the Wixárika people have made their annual pilgrimage. The preservation of Wirikuta is vital to the survival of their culture and their sacred territory. In October of 2010 we coordinated with Cultural Survival to initiate a Global Alert to stop mining in Wirikuta. Please read more and participate in this important campaign. For more information we suggest reading the document "What is Wirikuta?” A chronological history of what has occurred can be found on our page dedicated to news about the struggle to save Wirikuta, where we have posted news articles, videos, and documents.
